Is Fox Paving The Way For A Deadpool Movie?

Share with your fellow Consumers!

Deadpool is hands down one of the most hilarious, boisterous, violent, and pathologically psychotic characters ever to grace the face of a comic book. But are these same character traits also contributing to a movie delay?

With the recent hype of Deadpools record setting enormously oversized issue #27, fans once again are breathing new life into the “we want a Deadpool movie” campaign.

20th Century Fox can not deny Marvels success with The Avengers, and their respective spinoffs such as the recent box office smash, Captain America: Winter Soldier. The question is, with Deadpools growing fan base and recent publicity, could a script still be on the table? X-men producer Lauren Shuler Donner was recently quoted as stating:

“There was a regime [at the studio] that didn’t see the worth in [spin-offs], and the current people who run Fox understand, embrace it, and we’re going to do right by it. I’d like to do Gambit. I’d like to do Deadpool. We’ll see. There’s a lot of really great characters.”

That being said, is Fox really willing to make a movie as violent as Deadpool? Don’t forget, actor Ryan Reynolds has already spoken about some of the potential problems facing a Deadpool movie, commenting:

“I love Deadpool and there is a script that’s in development. But it’s so, so far into the R-rated zone it’s a nearly NC-17 world, and I just don’t know if the studio would ever risk their reputation doing it.”

Like many of my peers, I too want nothing more than to see Fox finally pull the trigger and commit to the making of Deadpool. However, if Fox is really going to produce Deadpool, it has to be rated-R in order to fully appreciate the uniqueness and subtle nuances of the character. Otherwise, we may end up with yet another neutered PG-13 disappointment like Spawn.

What are your thoughts? Is Fox even capable of making a great Deadpool movie? Or would Deadpool be better off back in the hands of Marvel?
