Simon Kinberg recently confirmed that the original X-Men cast will “certainly” be involved in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse film. In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Kinberg stated:

“It will focus primarily on the First Class cast, but it will certainly have some of the original cast involved too.”

Only a few months ago, Kinberg stated that Apocalypse would “only star the Future Class cast as well as Hugh Jackman.” So what caused Kinberg to change his mind? X-Men: Days of Future Past managed to rake in $90 million dollars opening weekend, and earned some of the best reviews of the franchise, simply based on the fact that it was able to tie both old and new casts together.

X-Men: Apocalypse will also feature many new characters, most notably Channing Tatum in the role of Gambit. Although not yet confirmed, given the original storyline’s use of time travel, don’t be surprised if Cable and Bishop should make an appearance as well. Whatever Kinberg decides, the X-Men: Apocalypse opening date of May 27, 2016 simply can not come soon enough.
