Agent Carter TV Show – New Addition To The MCU
Marvel really do continue to knock it out of the part with their ever expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of my (and countless others) favourite characters from Captain America: The First Avenger is Agent Peggy Carter (played by Haley Atwell). Despite living in “a man’s world” and no doubt subjected to sexism on a daily basis, Agent Carter was able to prove herself and carve out a high-ranking position within the US Armed Forces to have a say in the Super-Solider Program.
Today, Marvel have finally revealed that Haley Atwell will be reprising that role for her own TV show. This is fantastic news and shows that Marvel do take their female characters seriously. Many fans have been asking for the likes of Agent Carter, Black Widow and even Captain Marvel to take more prominent roles within the MCU. This is certainly a step in the right direction. I felt that Scarlett Johansson had a much more fleshed out role in The Winter Soldier so we are finally getting there. We did find out that Carter, along with Howard Stark, set up SHIELD so hopefully that will feature heavily across the show.
Also, if you haven’t seen the amazing Marvel One Shot in which we see a post-war Carter have to deal with abhorrent sexism, then I implore you to check it out. You can find it on YouTube or go out and pick up Iron Man III now!
Below are details from the official press release over at Marvel.com
“Marvel’s Agent Carter,” starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalised when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” along with the short “Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.”
Starring Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, “Marvel’s Agent Carter” is executive produced by Christopher Markus, Steve McFeely, Tara Butters, Michele Fazekas, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Jeph Loeb.”
