Anna from Frozen, The Beginnings of a Cosplay
Okay, can I just, say something crazy?
Princess Anna of Arendelle is my new favourite Disney character. She is a Disney princess with imperfect hair who gets away with singing with her mouth stuffed full of chocolate. She is adorably clumsy and awkward and she stumbles and fumbles through her days, making her extremely relatable. However, none of the imperfections take away from the fact that Anna is a genuine and incredibly strong willed person who will stop at nothing to help Elsa, for she loves her sister unconditionally.
Needless to say, I am oh so very excited about cosplaying as Anna. This will be a lot of fun and a great excuse for not hiding some of my personality flaws, including but not limited to foot-in-mouth syndrome. Making it even better is the fact that I get to team up with Need To Consume’s own Kia who is sure to create one hell of an Elsa outfit. No pressure then…
The outfit I am making is Anna’s winter getup. I love the fact that it’s separates, more pieces for me to play with. And it has a cape… Who doesn’t want to wear an awesome cape?
There are so many great details in this outfit. The pièce de résistance for me is the corset top. The cut of it and the cinched waist really gives this outfit that “princessy” feel. I have found a gorgeous velvet bodice that I am going to embroider and trim with ribbon. I would have loved to also embroider the skirt, however I just don’t think I am going to have the time to do that. I am planning to paint the skirt to achieve the two toned look and the flowery pattern.
The boots are also fantastic. I love the nordic inspired pattern, and the berry coloured soles make them Disney’s Christian Louboutins. I have got a plain pair of black boots for these and am looking forward to painting them.
I am not ashamed to say I have ordered the cape, I just didn’t feel like I can do it justice if I made it myself right now. So it is currently being sewn by a lovely lady in Elk Grove, California. One of these days I am going to get a sewing machine and make every single piece of clothing for my outfits…sigh. I am also still at the stage of looking for a blouse that I could possibly customise for this.
And then there’s the adorable braided pigtails and blue eyes. I am still convinced Anna should really have green eyes as she is such a mischievous little thing, but it will be fun for me to try blue contacts.
That is all there is to be said for now. I am very much looking forward to working on this outfit, most probably whilst singing along to the soundtrack with short breaks for chocolate. Make sure to check back soon for updates and progress pics.
